The IPTL and CTL return to India this year

The IPTL and CTL will be back in India this year as well. Both the leagues which were started last year by Mahesh Bhupati and Vijay Amritraj respectively have done well to popularise the game in Asia. Being a tennis buff, I went to watch the matches held in New Delhi last year. In fact it was my birthday on one of the match days and I got to meet the best players on that day in ITC Maurya, the official hotel for the players. I got a huge tennis ball signed by the players including Novak Djokovic, Pete Sampras, Gael Monfils, Goran Ivanesvic,Carlos Moya and numerous others.
The matches were unreal. I got to see Roger and Novak playing live in the Indira Gandhi stadium, coincidently the same stadium and venue where I had played the Asian Schools Chess Championship in 2011 and 2012.
I went there everyday during the course of the championship and had lots of fun. It was also an experience to see Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan the Bollywood heroes supporting tennis by gracing the event with their presence.
The CTL was a different story altogether. It was held in the R.K. Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi and unlike the IPTL which had teams from other countries it had only Indian teams. I watched Leander Paes play doubles and singles and also saw the South African giant Kevin Anderson. It was a unique experience altogether.
Though not like normal matches on the ATP and WTA tours the leagues had a different experience of their own. I am hoping to catch the events again this year when the matches start in November and December.Go IPTL and CTL.
